Additionally, "Dune: Part Two" generated $18.5 million in IMAX box office sales, marking the largest March opening in the company's history. This overwhelming demand even led to sold-out IMAX shows in New York City weeks in advance.
Rich Gelfond, IMAX's CEO, declared the movie a "massive cultural moment" and highlighted its power to attract audiences. "You can't get a ticket until three weeks from now," he revealed, emphasizing the film's immense popularity.
Based on Frank Herbert's legendary 1965 novel, "Dune: Part Two" transports viewers thousands of years into the future, amidst an age of space exploration and interstellar colonization. Originally scheduled for a November release, "Dune: Part Two" was strategically delayed to avoid conflict with a Hollywood actors' strike. This decision proved pivotal, according to Josh Grode, CEO of Legendary Entertainment, the film's production company. "We needed the star power of Zendaya, Timothée, Austin, and Florence," Grode stated. "They were crucial in reaching audiences beyond the sci-fi fanbase. Their genuine chemistry and enthusiasm for the film were evident during promotions and undoubtedly contributed to its success."
